I’ve been talking a lot about male domestic violence…
So I’m to keep quiet for it! Yes, I’m going to do a sponsored silence to raise money for either Mankind, the leading UK charity for supporting victims of male domestic abuse, or Men’s Action Line, a helpline for men affected by domestic abuse. The silence would be symbolic of both society’s silence about the domestic abuse of men, despite 40% of the victims being male, and also the silence of the abused (men are half as likely as women to speak out about being abused). I’ll put a link to a sponsorship website when I’ve sorted out the details.
I’m also planning to use the Welsh Assembly’s e-petition system to try and address the issue, since they have a policy for “violence against women” (rightly so), but are almost about violence against men. That’s in the embryonic stage, I’ll put something up as soon as I’ve done something.
How long should the sponsored silence be? The standard time is 24hrs, but I’m thinking maybe 2 or 3 days, except the novelty may wear off after a while. Any ideas?
